Asaf
Erdemli
Asaf Erdemli primarily works with metal and recycled materials. In his practice, he investigates mechanisms of manipulation and control as well as patterns of consumption from the past to the present. By operating a kind of recycling plant in his mind, he transforms reflections rooted in the past and extending toward what is consumed today and in the future into contemporary art objects.
Born in Turkey in 1977, Asaf Erdemli graduated with first honors from the Sculpture Department of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, in 2007.
He began his professional sculptural practice in Istanbul in 2007 and established his own studio in Ankara in 2013. As of 2024, the artist has launched his studio in Berlin and currently continues the production of his works between his studios in Berlin and Ankara.
Erdemli has participated in numerous international group exhibitions and art fairs. His works have been exhibited at major international events such as Art Miami (2025), the 48 Stunden Neukölln Art Festival (2024, 2025), the International Fine Arts Fair at the Louvre Museum in Paris (2017), and the Qatar Scrap Art Festival (2019). Being also a performing artist, he worked as a professional dancer and choreographer in a dance theater and the disabled dance group between 1998–2008.
